The 5 Best Sex Positions for Women

Yesterday we discussed the best sex positions for men, so it’s only fair that we give some attention to the ladies. Women have their own set of criteria for what makes a great sex position, and, no, it doesn’t always have to do with what feels most like “making love.”

While cuddling and body contact are nice, the real metric for a good position for women is the amount of attention her clit can get. That’s right; most women need direct clitoral stimulation to orgasm. Call it mother nature’s design flaw, but fast and hard thrusting in the missionary position isn’t going to get us off easily.

With that in mind, these are the best sex positions for women as determined by our willing (ok, possibly drunk) team of experts, in no particular order.

Spooning. Spooning was an overwhelming favorite among the women I talked to. Before you are quick to assume that it’s the closest position to cuddling that sex can be, consider the other benefits of this position. The rear entry stimulates the front wall, or G-spot; the shallow thrusting the position allows focuses all the sensation on the first third of the vagina, which is where most of the nerve-endings are; and there is easy access for him or her or your favorite vibrator to touch her clit. Her legs closed makes it even better because it creates extra tightness. Plus, it’s a great position for morning sex (no worries about morning breath) and anytime hangover sex.

Reverse Missionary. This woman on top position is great because it gives her control over the pace, motion, and depth of penetration. While the cowgirl position allows him to penetrate a little deeper, the reverse missionary has her leaning forward more, making the thrusts more shallow, but increasing the indirect pressure on her clit. She can get extra stimulation by grinding against his pubic bone while riding. This is also a comfortable position from which she can not only move up and down, but circle her hips for interesting sensations.

Downward Dog.  This modified doggy style position scored high among women as well. Downward dog is a rear entry position with her head and shoulders forward resting on bed, so it’s more comfortable for her. Downward dog has all the benefits of rear entry sex – deep penetration, front wall stimulation, and the space to use her hands for masturbating – but this modification protects her cervix from eager thrusting a little bit more than doggy style.

Coital Alignment Technique (CAT). This textbook sex position sounds dull, but it is designed with women’s pleasure in mind and boasts the highest rates of orgasms among women and simultaneous orgasms among couples than any other. CAT is a different take on the missionary position in which instead of the old in and out, he “rides high” with his pelvis up and forward. This alignment puts the shaft of his penis right on her clitoris, so when the couple slowly rocks together, it produces a ton of sensation. He doesn’t suffer any because the glans, or head of his penis, is still highly stimulated.

The Lap Dance. Sitting sex positions don’t win popularity contests, but they’re actually pretty fun. In the lap dance, he sits in chair, she straddle him while facing him, and both partners have their feet on floor.the couple has a lot of leverage to thrust, and there’s also plenty of body contact. It’s perfect for a romp in the kitchen while you’re waiting for water to boil.

Whatever variation you’re getting your groove on in, remember to pay attention to that little force to be reckoned with – her clit. With that, every position can be the best sex position for her.
